"I am with you all in heart and spirit. I wish you all well in your bold campaign. May this lead to a more compassionate and caring Australia.!"
I would like to consider myself a compassionate, moral and ethical member of the global village. As such I cannot condone what is being done in my name by the present Australian administration. I have never felt so ashamed of being Australian as I do at this time. I come from a multicultural family background and I am proud of this. I am also a teacher of children in a very multicultural school and I do not want my students to be exposed to the hateful lies and misleading propaganda of these sad times. Every Monday when my children sing the national anthem, they sing the second verse including the lines "... for those who come across the seas, we've boundless plains to share..." I feel deeply ashamed each time I hear those innocent voices sing these lines because they no longer reflect the reality in which we now live.
