03.Feb.03 - More than 400 clandestine immigrants of sub-Saharan origin have been arrested during last week in Morocco. According to the Moroccan news agency map these arrest took place in the context of a 'control and clean' operation along the Moroccan-Algerian border.
Labeled as 'candidates for illegal emigration' towards Europe by the royal police, these persons have been arrested on the two main axes linking Oujda (in the east) with Fes (in the center) and Berkane (also in the east). Among the arrested were numerous women with newborn babies. Another 38 sub-Saharan Africans from Mali, Guinea Bissau, Senegal and Gambia have been arrested close to Sefrou (in center). .
